I’m firing off a quick What I’ve Been Reading today. Enjoy.
- Gretchen McCulloch of The Toast provides a linguistic analysis of the “doge” meme that has invaded the Internet. so education. very linguistics.
- Derrick Sanskrit of The AV Club tracks the evolution of dating shows over the past half-century. He thinks they’ve gotten meaner. I’ve also gotten meaner, you filthy digital cretins.
- James Gallagher of BBC News reports that mathematicians see beauty in certain equations the same way most of us see beauty in art. Nifty.
- Finally, Mike Rose of Gamasutra has a lengthy piece on the relationship (or the lack thereof) between video games and gun violence. A few glaring flaws notwithstanding, most notably its failure to explain why the supposed link between aggression and real-life violence is suspect, it’s a well-written, highly informative piece. Give it a read.
That’s all for this week. Ciao.
