What have I been reading? Articles on the Internet! Let’s read about Bethesda, Valve, and -sigh- PWR BTTM.

  • A while ago, Bethesda implemented a policy of only sending out review copies of their games a day before release. Now, as Jason Schreier of Kotaku explains, it seems like that policy has backfired, resulting in lower-than-expected review scores for the game from reviewers who were forced to rush through the experience and were unable to soak in its atmosphere.
  • Writing for Polygon, Tim Colwill dismantles Valve’s “good guy” reputation in the PC gaming space. He’s not the first to do so, though, and a lot of people have been making these criticisms – consumer-unfriendly policies, a poorly-managed support system, and the exploitation of its fans for free labour – for at least a couple of years.
  • By now, you might have heard of the abuse and sexual assault allegations against Ben Hopkins of PWR BTTM. Sasha Geffen of Pitchfork explains why the allegations were so devastating for the LGBT community.

That’s all for today. See you next week, maybe.
