A brief one this week, just so I can say that I made at least one post in the month of July.Continue reading “What I’ve Been Reading: July 24, 2022”

This blog’s most time-honoured tradition returns. 2021 fucking sucked. A global pandemic raged on, the rich continued to get richer, and uncontrollable forest fires demonstrated that global warming’s effects are already here. Simply put, shit’s fucked. Viewed in that light, talking about pop-cultural disappointments feels petty. But you know what? This is my personal blog, and I’m allowed be petty and laugh at stupid things. So that’s what I’m going to do, as I’ve done every year since… -searches blog- holy shit I’ve been doing this since 2011??? How have I not lost my fucking mind yet???
A reminder: these aren’t necessarily the worst aspects of pop culture in 2021. They’re just the things that disappointed me the most, personally. So without further ado, I bring you 2021: the year in shit.Continue reading “The Ten Biggest Pop Culture Disappointments of 2021”
Today, we’re talking about Jimmy Eat World, anime production, and everyone’s favourite orange cat… Heathcliff! What, you were expecting something different? Hahaha, you moron.Continue reading “What I’ve Been Reading: September 19, 2021”
Hey, we haven’t done this in a while. It’s been… -checks blog- two whole-ass months? Jeez, what the fuck have I been doing? Anyway, let’s talk about yuri manga, AI: The Somnium Files, and academic fraud.Continue reading “What I’ve Been Reading: August 22, 2021”
I don’t normally do book reviews on this site, let alone for a four-year-old book. But it’s the end of the month, and I want to make at least one post in July lest readers declare this blog dead. So fuck it, let’s talk about Cory Doctorow’s post-cyberpunk novel Walkaway.
Before proceeding, please note that like all reviews on this blog, this is going to contain hella spoilers. I write reviews not as buyer’s guides, but for discussing stuff with people who have experienced the work in question. I’m doing this for free. There’s no ad revenue. I’m just blasting my thoughts into space. So feel free to tell me this is shit. I don’t mind. Anyway, further ado, let’s get our hands dirty, shall we?Continue reading “Book Review: Walkaway by Cory Doctorow”
Happy April, folks! This week, we’re talking about lying, Sailor Moon, and loneliness. Incidentally, “Lying, Sailor Moon, and Loneliness” is the title of my memoir.Continue reading “What I’ve Been Reading: April 4, 2021”
Another week, another WIBR. This time around, we’re tackling English literature syllabi, lampreys, and candy. Are those things related? No, not at all. Why would you even think that? You’re an idiot.Continue reading “What I’ve Been Reading: March 21, 2021”
This week’s What I’ve Been Reading has ended up being a monthly round-up of links from February and earlier. I don’t intend for WIBR to become a monthly round-up, but sometimes that’s just how the chips fall. C’est la vie.
In any case, this Sunday I’ve got articles about Colin Jost, Joss Whedon, and of course, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.Continue reading “What I’ve Been Reading: February 28, 2021”
As I do every year, I’m putting up a list of the pop cultural works I’m most anticipating this year, followed by a huge list of honourable mentions (mostly video games). Before we proceed, the usual disclaimers: A) Sometimes things miss their scheduled release dates, so don’t come crying to me if you’re not playing Deathloop this spring. B) We’re already a couple of weeks into 2020, so I might discuss some stuff that has started coming out.
Let’s get on with it!Continue reading “Things I’m Most Looking Forward to in 2021”
I’m feeling lazy this week, so there will be very little commentary. Continue reading “What I’ve Been Reading: October 20, 2019”
