As I’ve done in previous years, I’m listing a bunch of songs I liked last year. 2021: The year when I said, “Okay, fuck it, I’ll listen to that.” People keep recommending me albums, and I keep seeing records I’ve never heard on year-end lists, so this was the year I resolved to at least try to keep up with critically-acclaimed music.
I didn’t succeed. (No shit.) And honestly, I didn’t like a lot of what I heard. But at least I can say that I’m less ignorant than I otherwise would have been. I listened to a whopping 186 new albums this year, a few short of my goal of 200, but an impressive total nonetheless. And despite the fact that a lot of it was trash, I did find quite a few gems in there. Here, I’ll be presenting my top 20, but I’ve also attached the full list if you’re curious. It’s time for my annual list of favourite albums! I listened to a lot of new albums this year – a record-breaking 125! – so I had a lot of records to choose from in narrowing down my top 20. Still, it was a pretty difficult task. I’d say that every album down to #30 or #31 on my list could be in my top 20, depending on my mood. But I had to narrow down the list to just 20 records.
